FIVE CENTURIES OF DEVOTION

A World-Wide Movement of Prayer Entrusted to the Dominican Order by the Holy See more than 500 Years Ago.

Since St. John Paul II added the five luminous mysteries, it would seem that members of the Confraternity should strive to include that extra weekly Rosary. However, the Dominicans have as yet received no official statement regarding this matter. Those who recite only the fifteen traditional mysteries will continue to share in the benefits of the Confraternity until some official source declares the contrary.

Her Crown of Roses

FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD

The Rosary Confraternity is a spiritual association (of the Catholic Church), the members of which strive to pray the entire Rosary during the course of each week. They form a union of countless hundreds of thousands of the faithful throughout the world who, along with their own intentions, include the intentions and needs of all its members, while they in turn pray for them.

Each member strives to pray the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary each week (this does not bind under sin), and must have his/her name inscribed in the register of the Confraternity. There are no meetings, no dues.

What is a Confraternity of the Holy Rosary?

INTERCESSION OF THE ENTIRE HEAVENLY COURT

The deceased cannot be enrolled in the Confraternity. However, each member includes deceased fellow members as well; and thus he knows that in turn he will be included in the prayers of hundreds of thousands both now and hereafter. This led the Cure of Ars to say: “If anyone has the happiness of being in the Confraternity of the Rosary, he has in all corners of the world brothers and sisters who pray for him.”

For the Devotional

MEDITATIONS ON THE MYSTERIES

As a requirement of membership, each member of the Confraternity strives to pray the three Rosaries (fifteen decades) each week and to include the other members of the Confraternity in their intentions. This is the sole obligation of membership in the Rosary Confraternity. It does not bind under the pain of sin (which means it is not a sin if you fail to pray your 15 decades as a Member).

  • Meditation on the Mysteries of Christ is necessary as part of praying the Rosary.
  • The intentions of the other members are to be included in one’s prayers. This can be done by making a “general intention” to always include their intentions and this does not need to be explicitly repeated every time one prays the Rosary.

Spiritual Benefits

  • The intercession and special protection of Our Lady, the Queen of Heaven, Mother of God.
  • A share in the prayers and the good works of the countless rosaries prayed by Rosary Confraternity members throughout the world and in heaven, and even after death.
  • A share in the prayers, Mass, and apostolic works of the entire Order of Preachers of the Dominican Order.
  • For members of the Confraternity, a plenary indulgence is granted under the usual conditions on the day of enrollment (the day indicated on the register/certificate) as well as the feast days of Christmas, Easter, the Annunciation, the Assumption of Our Lady, the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Immaculate Conception, and Our Lord’s Presentation in the Temple.
  • A plenary indulgence is also granted, under the usual conditions, to all who pray the rosary in a Church or oratory, in a family (family rosary), religious community, or in a pious association of the faithful. Otherwise, the indulgence is partial.
