The Canadian Rockies

CANMORE, ALBERTA

Canmore is a vibrant mountain town in Alberta’s Rockies, west of Calgary, known for its dramatic peaks like the Three Sisters as beautifully depicted in the Shrine’s stained glass. Surrounded by trails, waterfalls, turquoise lakes, and limestone canyons, the area offers year-round opportunities outdoors and reflection in nature.

Amid this landscape,  the Shrine Church of Our Lady of the Rockies becomes not only steps away from the wild, but also a place where the spiritual journey deepens—where the natural world stirs the soul toward wonder, prayer, and faith.

A Pilgrimage Site

2025 JUBILEE OF HOPE

Our Shrine was dedicated by His Excellency Bishop William McGrattan. Thank you to all pilgrims who joined us for the Jubilee Marian Week at the Shrine Church of Our Lady of the Rockies, Canmore.

The Rosary and the Dominican Order

A CONFRATERNITY OF THE MOST HOLY ROSARY

On August 22, 2025, during the Solemnity of the Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady of the Rockies Shrine was formally enrolled into the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary. In union with the Dominican Order and the countless faithful throughout the world, our Shrine now shares in this centuries-old spiritual family, dedicated to honoring Our Lady and drawing souls closer to Christ through the prayer of the Rosary. This enrollment is also an open invitation for all parishioners and visitors of the Shrine to join the Confraternity and participate in the graces and spiritual benefits it offers.

The Light of Mary’s Sanctuary

Shrine Art Gallery

We have curated a collection of framed prints and canvases featuring iconic Catholic art. These pieces are displayed throughout the church to inspire prayer and reflection. Their acquisition and framing were generously sponsored by one of our parishioners, with additional artworks donated by others in our faith community.

Shrine Architecture

The Shrine’s architecture harmoniously blends traditional and modern elements, featuring a cruciform design that reflects its spiritual significance. A focal point is the custom-designed stained glass window depicting Mary with the Christ Child, set against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains—a unique devotional image that embodies the church’s connection to its natural surroundings .
